Integrated economic–hydrologic water modeling at the basin scale: the Maipo river basin
نویسندگان
چکیده
Increasing competition for water across sectors increases the importance of the river basin as the appropriate unit of analysis to address the challenges facing water resources management; and modeling at this scale can provide essential information for policymakers in their resource allocation decisions. This paper introduces an integrated economic–hydrologic modeling framework that accounts for the interactions between water allocation, farmer input choice, agricultural productivity, non-agricultural water demand, and resource degradation in order to estimate the social and economic gains from improvement in the allocation and efficiency of water use. The model is applied to the Maipo river basin in Chile. Economic benefits to water use are evaluated for different demand management instruments, including markets in tradable water rights, based on production and benefit functions with respect to water for the agricultural and urban-industrial sectors. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Nowadays, the water supply and water demand management are the main issues in water resources planning. It is more important in a river basin with a complex system facing with droughts, climate changes, inter-basin water transfer and operational and under study dams. In this paper, for water resources planning in a river basin and reducing the difference between water resources and water demand...

The interdisciplinary nature of water resources problems requires the integration of technical, economic, environmental, social, and legal aspects into a coherent analytical framework. This paper presents the development of a new integrated hydrologicagronomic-economic model in the context of a river basin in which irrigation is the dominant water use and irrigation-induced salinity presents a ...
متن کاملHydro-economic Modeling in River Basin Management: Implications and Applications for the European Water Framework Directive
Economic ideas and processes are becoming increasingly integrated with more traditional engineering and hydrologic models of water management problems. Combining economic management concepts and performance indicators with an engineering-level of understanding of a hydrologic system can provide results and insights more directly relevant for water management decisions and policies. When such mo...

Garesoo river basin in Doab-Merek, as studying area of this research, located in northwest of Kermanshah province in west part of Iran. There is long-term hydro climatologic data in this basin about rainfall, temperature, etc. (more than 50 years) and main river data (about 35 years). Due to intense fall down groundwater level and seasonal river drying, in the past 10 years .It was necessary th...

Accurate estimation of spatial and temporal distribution of the water resources parameters is a crucial for hydrologic models. During the last decades, engineers and planners have shown keen interest in applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite based Remote Sensing (RS) technologies to extract land surface parameters, which acted as a threshold in early days, to obtain reasona...
